OND Computer Hardware Engineering

To impart the necessary skills leading to the acquisition of skilled, enterprising and self-reliant personnel in Computer Hardware Engineering Technology.

 

Objective

A product of National Diploma programme in Computer Hardware Engineering Technology should be able to:

1.       Operate and maintain basic Operating Systems (DOS & Windows}.

2.       Understand the computer environment and acquire the skills needed to identify
        and optimize memory and computer configuration.


3.       Start and manage computer-based businesses

4.       Carry out routine (preventive) maintenance of Computer systems.

5.       Be able to assemble and install micro computers.

6.       Partition and format disks and load files.

7.       Install window NT\200x in a multi-boot configuration.

8.       Partition and format disks and load files.

9.       Install and uninstall software.

10.   Detect technical faults in a Micro Computer

11.   Setup and troubleshoot basic Network in LAN.

 

Entry Qualifications

 I).         S.S.C.E or its equivalent. Credit passes in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English language and any other one from Metal works, Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics, Biology or Agricultural Science, Geography, and Further Mathematics.

 

ii).        The National Vocational Certificate {NVC} or National Technical Certificate {NTC} with credit passes in the trade modules and five academic subjects relevant to the programme and at least a pass in English language.

 

OND Computer Software Engineering

This NBTE approved National Diploma programme is designed to produce skilled software technicians who should be able to solve a wide range of problems by the systematic development and evaluation of large, high quality systems.

 

Objectives

                  A product of National  Diploma (OND) in Computer Software should be able to:

 1.                  Develop and maintain software

 2.                  Detect technical faults in a Computer installation

 3.                  Design and test software to optimize its production and support

 4.                  Design and run efficient programmes in a wide spectrum of fields, and in
      various languages

 5.                  Install a computer system

 6.                  Produce large, high quality software systems

 7.                  Advise on the installation of Computer facilities

 8.                  Carry out routine (preventive) maintenance of Computer facilities

 9.                  Work with a team on a project

 10.                Become an employer of labor in a self-owned enterprise.

 

Entry Qualifications

The entry requirements into National Diploma in Computer Software Engineering programme include any of the following:-

 

 a)        Five (5) credit level passes in GCE “O” level or Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) at not more than two sittings. The five subjects must include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English language and any other subject.

 

b)         National Vocational Certificate (NVC, Final) in Computer Studies from an approved Vocational Enterprise Institution (VEI).

 

 

 

NVC Computer Studies

The Vocational Computer Studies Certificate is designed to produce enterprising and self-reliant personnel in computer operations.

 

Objectives

On completion of the programme the student should be able to:

  1. Understand the computer environment and posses skills needed to use common
    software packages in a very competent manner in the business and industrial  sector.
  1. Operate and maintain basic Operating System.
  1. Install and run common software.
  1. Input and retrieve data from databases.
  1. Detect minor technical faults in a Computer.
  1. Carry out routine (preventive) maintenance of Computer facilities.
  1. Start and manage a small computer-based business.

 

 Entry Qualifications

 

(i)         Nine years of basic education (3 years of Junior Secondary and school leaving certificate) is the minimum requiremet for entry.  Or

 

(ii)       Special consideration may be given to sponsored candidates with lower academic qualification. Or

 

(iii)       Candidates (matured) who are computer literate have good aptitude capable of benefiting from the programme.

 

Business Administration and Management

The Diploma programme is designed to produce knowledgeable and skilled personnel who should be able to solve a wide range of problems in the business world.

Entry Qualifications

a)
Five credits: WAEC,GCE[O/L],SSCE,NECO,NABTEB or equivalent with Credits in English Language, Mathematics, and any three subjects from: Economics/Commerce, Business Method, Principles of Accounts, Literature in English, Geography, Office Practice/Government, Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Physics, History/Government, Typewriting, Shorthand.
