       (A)        CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION

General conditions for admission into a programme: All direct admissions into the course offered by the institute are based on the approved guidelines provided by National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and must satisfy a minimum of Basic 9 certificate. Applicants that possess passes in SSSCE, GCE or NECO are free to apply and will be given special consideration. Based on passing the examinations and meeting other criteria that may be laid down by the management of the institution, candidate may be offered provisional admission. The final admission of the candidate however rests on his/her meeting the minimum requirements laid down by the National Education Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

 

(i)                  An application form is usually obtained from the institution for a fee and completed forms are returned to the institution.

 

(ii)             The admission of a candidate into a programme is a prerogative of the Academic Board of the institution which must ensure that the candidate meets the minimum entry requirements for the programme as laid down by the National Education Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

 

(B)        GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENT

 

   1.        FULL TIME PROGRAMMES

All prospective applicants for admission into the various courses leading to the award of National Innovation Diploma (NID) or National Vocational Diploma (NVC) should as a matter of policy, possess a minimum of five or four credit passes as the case may be, in subjects related to the chosen course obtained in not more than two sittings in the West African Senior Scholl Certificate Examination WASSCE, General Certificate in Education or its equivalent.

Mature and working applicants/intending students may be considered on the recommendation of their employer, community or sponsor for such course or training.

 

                2.     REGISTRATION

All students offered admission must register and old students are also expected to register at the beginning of each semester.

 

                3.     MATRICULATION

All newly admitted and registered students must be matriculated. Matriculation exercise marks the end of a students’ registration.

 

4.         ATTENDANCE AT CLASSES

Every student is expected to make a minimum attendance of 75% of the total possible contact hours for each course in each semester. Absence on the ground of illness must be supported with a medical certificate duly signed by a qualified medical practitioner from a government owned hospital and must be endorse by the Director of Health Administration of the Institute and must be submitted within seven days of absence.

 

                5      PRACTICAL

Practical work in Laboratories and Workshops is essential. It is the student’s responsibility to make him aware of the various regulations before carrying out such work. All practical are compulsory and a minimum of 80% attendance/participation is expected of every student. Where damage is caused to apparatus through negligence of the student, such student will be held responsible for the cost of repairs or replacement.

In the interest of safety, every student should exercise great care and caution when carrying out practical work and should ensure that suitable clothing and safety wears are worn while in the laboratory or workshop.
